The battle for the TNM Super League title has turned into a heated verbal tirade with one of title favourites Silver Strikers accusing leaders Blue Eagles of anti-football style of play following their barren draw at Nankhaka ground on Saturday.

“I doubt if Eagles played with any purpose. They just knocked the ball forward and defended by committing a lot of fouls. This is the worse team we have faced in terms of style,” an emotional Silver coach Lovemore Fazili said.

The Bankers could have wrestled the top spot had they won the temper-laden derby. A draw and other weekend results elsewhere have since relegated them from second to fourth position.

Fazili further said that football was invented to entertain while casting doubt if a sizeable crowd that witnessed the match were satisfied.

“I don’t think the fans were entertained. As coaches let us train our players to play football so that the supporters enjoy our games. Let’s make our football an attractive brand,” he stated.

However, Eagles general manager Gabriel Chirwa hit back at Fazili saying: “He should learn to accept when things don’t go their way.”

He said his side was ambitious offensively but were not clinical enough to claim a goal.

“It is unfair to accuse us of just knocking the ball forward aimlessly. On fouls, I also don’t understand what he meant because Silver also committed fouls on our players. I think Silver is frustrated because they wanted to win and they didn’t,” he said. n
