TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers are back to winning ways after a comprehensive 2-0 beating of Epac FC on Wednesday.

It was a relief for coach Franco Ndawa who faced pressure from a section of the club to quit.

Prior to the victory against Epac, the defending champions dropped eight points in the last three matches they have played recently, thereby dropping to position 10.

After the final whistle, Ndawa gave credit to God.

Ndi chisomo cha Mulungu kuti tiwine [It is by God’s grace that we have won today]. Hopefully, this is the beginning of good things,” said Ndawa.

Midfielder Frank Banda was the toast of the day after scoring two goals in the second-half.

“He played a great game and his goal was simply wonderful,” said Ndawa .

Despite the win, Epac were never a pushover and played relatively well, but their three strikers Ishmael Thindwa, Mussa Manyenje and Rodrick Doulas did not bother Silver’s defence marshaled by Lucky Malata and Bernado Namangwiyo.

Epac coach Abbas Makawa blamed his defence for the two goals.

“Those were silly goals. We could have done better in defence. Anyway we have lost and must focus on other coming games,” said Makawa.

Meanwhile, Ndawa has cautioned his players not to be carried away with the win, but instead focus on Saturday’s game against Mighty Wanderers.

“The game against Wanderers is a completely different affair. We have to use different tactics. It is a must-win game for us. We have to be at our best if we are to win,” said Ndawa.

Silver now have 13 points from nine games and are on position eight while Epac are on position seven from 11 games.
