Silver, Eagles eye revenge

Listen to this article

Wounds are rotting for bruised and beaten Lilongwe-based giants Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles, who have a score to settle against the teams that booted them out of the Fisd Challenge Cup over the weekend.

As the TNM Super League title battle resumes this afternoon, the Bankers have a chance to avenge their loss to Kamuzu Barracks (KB) when the two sides clash this afternoon at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.Silver-players

On Sunday, KB ended Silver’s dream of winning a cup this season right at their backyard when the soldiers stunned the Bankers 1-0 through a Manase Chiyesa goal.

This afternoon’s encounter, according to coach Lovemore Fazili, is a match the Bankers have to win at all cost to regain their confidence.

“We can’t allow them to beat us again,” he said.blue-eagles

Eagles also host Wanderers tomorrow in a repeat of last Saturday’s Fisd Challenge Cup semi-final tie which the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side lost 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium via Bongani Kaipa’s late strike.

After the Saturday loss, Eagles coach DeKlerk Msakakuona said they were looking forward to the league match at Nankhaka.

“We have lost to them in the cup game, but the good thing is that they are coming to Nankhaka for the league game where we will punish them for this,” he said.

But the ultimate price for both Silver and Eagles is the top spot which Nyasa Big Bullets perch on.

The defending champions have 45 points just like Eagles and third-placed Mafco, but with a better aggregate, while the Bankers are fourth with 43 points.

Silver can replace Bullets if they beat KB this afternoon, but they will have to pray that Eagles should not beat Wanderers tomorrow.

But then KB are also eyeing the top position and a victory in this afternoon’s match will take them to the top as well.

KB team manager Francis Shawa said they are confident of repeating the feat.

The Nomads, on the other hand, are hoping to gate-crash into the top five if they can come out of Nankhaka unscathed.
