Silver move to second position

 

Silver Strikers have replaced Mafco on second position of TNM Super League log table after beating Red Lions 2-1 at Balaka Stadium yesterday.

Mathews Sibale and Blessings Tembo put Silver Strikers in the lead but Red Lions pulled one back through Gibson Nkhonjera.

The Bankers now have 16 points from eight games.

Mafco, who were on bye yesterday, have been pushed to position three with 14 points but with a game in hand.

At Kamuzu Stadium, rookies Karonga United and Max Bullets settled for a one-all draw.

Wongani Zulu scored for Max Bullets before Karonga United equalised through Pacharo Ngwira.

There was an upset in Mzuzu where  Mzuzu University (Mzuni) stunned Civo United 1-0 through a Victor Gondwe goal.

The students now have 13 points from eight games and have replaced Nyasa Big Bullets on position four.

The battle for points continues this afternoon with Karonga United completing their tour of the Southern Region against Wizards FC at Kamuzu Stadium.

Leaders Blue Eagles, who have 18 points from seven games, can widen the gap when they play Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium.

Be Forward Wanderers and Big Bullets were on bye after contributing more than three players to the national team which is in camp in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) said they were compelled to put the two sides on bye since there were plans for the national team to travel to Botswana to play an international friendly today against the Zebras.

The international friendly was cancelled after Football Association of Malawi failed to raise funds for for the trip. n
