Malawi Government has completed construction of only nine chiefs’ houses in five years under a programme Parliament has been funding to promote the welfare of chiefs across the country, officials have said.
In an emailed response last Tuesday, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development public relations officer Maganizo Mazeze said four more houses are under construction in the Central and Southern regions, saying completion of the houses is expected soon.

Malawi Government’s efforts to construct an elderly care centre in Neno have stalled for over five years due to Treasury’s failure to allocate enough resources to the project over the years, officials have said.
In an interview on Monday, Neno district commissioner MacDonald Kadammanja said no construction work has taken place on the site designated for the centre several years after the project’s contractor disappeared from the place.
