Be Forward Wanderers yesterday reclaimed the TNM Super League top spot with a 5-1 devastating and comprehensive demolition of a Moyale Barracks side which never looked remotely capable of challenging the supremacy of their goal-hungry hosts.

The Nomads, who have 31 points from 14 games, have scaled back to the summit of the 16-team league after toppling Silver Strikers who now trail the Lali Lubani Road outfit by two points.

From the outset, Wanderers passed and moved with all their old verve and fluency and could have led by more goals going into recess than a narrow 1-0 at Balaka Stadium.

the third goal

Isaac ‘Tcheya’ Kaliati, who was in magnificent form, drew first blood when he connected home a Yamikani Chester corner kick in the 10th minute.

In the second half, the Nomads engaged an extra gear and were two-up after three minutes when Jaffalie Chande connected home a Peter Wadabwa pass.

As the game progressed, Joseph Kamwendo made it 3-0 with a strike of utter beauty with a volley from outside the 18-yard box.

Then Wadabwa capped it up with a brace before the Mzuzu-based Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side scored a consolation goal through Khuda Muyaba.

The result should give the Kaning’ina Lions plenty of food for thought ahead of their Carlsberg Cup semi-final clash against the Nomads next week, but they will find solace in that they will be playing at their backyard in Mzuzu.

However, Nomads team manager Stevie Madeira was a model of modesty, playing down any suggestions that the Nomads will head to Mzuzu with a spring in their feet after this convincing victory.

“Of course, it was a fantastic performance today, we were simply unstoppable. But next weekend’s match will be a different game altogether and we will not be carried away with today’s result,” he said.

On his part, Moyale coach Charles Kamanga admitted that his troops simply did not turn up.

“We just didn’t play well today,” he said.

At Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre, Nyasa Big Bullets moved up two places to third when they edged the Zomba-based Red Lions 1-0. They now have 24 points from 13 games.

Lions took control within the first 15 minutes forcing Bullets’ Yamikani Fodya to clear on the line a Kumbukani Mwambene shot.

Benesi Kayisi’s set piece also hit the post with goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe beaten.

But Bullets, who were struggling to play their pass and move game, reorganised themselves in the second half. No wonder they got a goal just after recess through Nelson Kangunje.

Mussa Manyenje burst from the left wing, beating his markers before sending the ball on the right flank where Fischer Kondowe laid it for Kangunje to connect with ease.

Bullets coach Eliah Kananji admitted they need to pull up their socks.

“We must accept that we struggled. Every game is like a cup match,” he said. n
