Urban musician and record producer, Sonyezo Kandoje, popularly known by his stage name Sonye, says he is ready for a comeback two years after he released his album BreakPoint.

Sonye made the revelation in an interview over the weekend, disclosing he will be making his long-awaited return to music with new singles which he will be releasing this summer.

“I have a couple of singles which I am working on right now, but definitely I’ll be dropping two or three end July or early August,” said the Blantyre-based artist.

The singer, famed for his hit songs such as Mr. Captain, Ukadutsa, Tabwera and Koma Iwe, took a break from music as he focused on his education at Malawi College of Accountancy. He also has a stint working with Malawi Telecommunications Limited after his studies.

Speaking further during the interview, the vocalist indicated that after releasing the few summer singles, he will start working on his second album for his official comeback next year.

“This is just a start, but next year I will be making my official comeback with an album,” added Sonye. “I want to thank my fans for being patient with me because I left them hanging; I can promise that they won’t be disappointed with the new Sonye.”

A resident of Namiwawa, where his Baseline Studio was located before closing it down, Sonye is one of most talented artists born in Malawi and is one producer who has made a substantial contribution to the growth of urban music in the country.

Before taking a break from music as singer and producer, Sonye had produced music for several top Malawian urban artists, among them award-winning rapper Tay Grin, Theo Thomson, and Kumbu.

He has also produced for artists such as rappers Young Kay and BarryOne as well as Afro R&B/Pop singers Maskal and Tigris.
