Sound and light weekend

The organisers of the Sound and Light Concert, Entertainers Promotion, have said all is set for the two-day event starting Friday at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima.

Director of Entertainers Promotions Tonderai Jai Banda said the concert is a local initiative birthed to inspire artists and expose the power of the local music industry.

“All is set for Sound and Light Concert whose emphasis is on giving local artists opportunity to blossom. We believe that with necessary stage and equipment they can achieve great things and develop the country’s music industry,” said Tonderai.

Among other things, it will provide local artists with a big stage experience coupled with the lighting system, which is accorded to international artists when their come to perform in Malawi.

“We believe we have the capacity to develop the local artists into the desired international brands we want to see in the near future. They can give the country the best performances if we give them opportunity and necessary platform to nurture their skills and experience. In our case, we are giving them experience equal international artists,” said Tonderai.

The concert has taken on board artists from diverse genres including reggae, Hip hop and gospel.

Soldier Lucius Banda, Theo Thomson, Black Missionaries, Tay Grin, Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Billy Kaunda, Roy View, Lulu, Patience Namadingo, Anthony Makondesta, Edgar Ndi Davis, Tuno, Kwini B, Nepman and Skeffa Chimoto are some of the performers at this year’s event.

Chimoto said local artists deserve good treatment and experience to be motivated and to improve their performance.

“Artists are usually encouraged to do more when they are given necessary support and resources to perfect their art. In this case, the big stage experience accords them with opportunity to prepare and master stage work for international shows.  The big stage, dazzling lights, smokes and fireworks prepare them to ably handle international events,” he said.
