Cricket Academy B has emerged winner of the regional TNM sponsored Senior Schools Cricket League.

Cricket Academy B beat Central Region champions Bishop Mackenzie International during games played at St. Andrew’s International High School in Blantyre. They won with five wickets to claim the 2014 championship.

In another game, Lilongwe Select beat Blantyre-based Nyambadwe Eagles with 42 runs.

Chairperson of coaching and development committee of the Malawi Cricket Union (MCU), Gift Kansokho, said the finals were up to the standards.

“We have watched a good game, which shows that now we are developing the new talent in the game of cricket and that is what we want,” said Kansonkho.

He attributed the success in the development of cricket among the youth to the partnership that exists between the academy and TNM.

Kansonkho, therefore, hailed TNM’s commitment in supporting cricket, which is regarded as a dominant sport in the country.

“TNM is committed to taking the game of cricket in Malawi to a whole new level and we believe this is achievable if we harness young cricket talent through tailored cricket initiatives such as these games,” he said

TNM has a four-year sponsorship agreement with the Blantyre-based Cricket Academy to the tune of K24 million. TNM’s sponsorship of the Cricket Academy goes towards equipment, administration of the academy’s offices at St. Andrew’s, coach training and running of training clinics for youth in primary and secondary schools across the country.

TNM also contributed to the Guinness Record Event through procurement of bowling equipment valued at K 10.2 million.
