NAM, African body differ on date

The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) wants to host the 2013 African Netball Championship between June and July, but continental body Africa Netball is against the schedule.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda confirmed on Wednesday that African Netball will now have a say on the calendar of the biggest continental championship whose defending champions are the Queens of Malawi.

"They are arguing that the calendar of events would have been jammed between June and July; hence, they have suggested May. Since they are the netball sanctioning body in Africa, we will wait for their final say," Chinunda said.

NAM hosts the event despite being faced with a challenge of poor facilities.

But Chinunda said they were banking on either the African Bible College in Lilongwe or the College of Medicine’s Sports Complex in Blantyre.

Last year, the Queens retained the title for the second consecutive edition held at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania after beating Lesotho 58-19.
