SRCL concludes Kumudzi Chess games

Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) will tomorrow conclude the Kumudzi Club Chess Championship at Steers & Debonaires in Blantyre.

SRCL spokesperson Kissinger Kabuluzi said they were supposed to finalise their games last month to pave the way for national finals, but they delayed due to some technical hitches.

“But we are now ready to complete our games this Saturday. All contesting clubs should confirm their availability via SRCL’s WhatsApp group by Friday [today],” he said.

This means SRCL clubs such as Ndirande Snipers, Chilobwe Knights, Super Grandmasters, Bangwe Philosophers and Chilomoni Masters should get set to fight for a slot at the national finals.

Northern Region Chess League (NRCL) will have their final games next week when clubs such as Mchengautuwa, Chibavi, Flying Horses and Gladiators will take it to the chess board.

According to Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) spokesperson Makhosi Nyirenda, if SRCL and NRCL fail to identify their national finals’ representatives on the scheduled dates, they will be disqualified.

“They have no choice but to wrap up their games on the said dates if they are to be considered for the national finals on December 17,” Nyirenda said.

Central Region Chess League (CRCL) identified Sweeping Pawns as their ambassadors. n
