St Andrew’s introduces youth football league

St Andrew’s International High School has introduced Under-14 and Under-20 football leagues that kick off on January 21.

The school’s sports manager and events coordinator Moffat Champiti said yesterday the youth leagues, which will run between January 21 and 27, aim at keeping the youth around Blantyre busy.

He said the initial contest will involve St Andrew’s High School, HHI Primary School, Ndirande Hill Primary School and Play Soccer Malawi in the Under-14 category. The Under-20 event will have St Andrew’s High School, St Eagles FC, PlaySoccer Malawi and Chitawira Rangers FC.

“This is the beginning of youth leagues that will help to keep youths busy after school in Blantyre. As a school, we want to share our sports facilities with others while at the same time promoting physical exercises among our youths. We will involve more teams in our next event,” he said.

According to Champiti, the first games on January 21 will kick off at 4pm whereas those taking place on January 25 and 27 will begin at 2.30pm.

“We will provide trophies and hampers to the winners. We will also provide the venue and we will pay the match officials. Depending on the success of this contest, we hope to make the next event bigger and better,” he said.

The fixtures for the Under-14 league on January 21 are as follows: St Andrews versus PlaySoccer and Ndirande Hill against HHI.

On January 25, St Andrews will play against Ndirande Hill as HHI will be facing PlaySoccer. On January 27, Ndirande Hill will take on PlaySoccer while St Andrews will be up against HHI.

In the Under-20 league, St Andrews will face PlaySoccer on January 21 while Chitawira Rangers will take on St Eagles. On January 25, Chitawira will tussle against PlaySoccer as St Andrews take on St Eagles. On January 27, St Andrews and Chitawira Rangers will face off while St Eagles will battle it out against PlaySoccer.
