Stand up for the champs!

Listen to this article

Seeing Big Bullets’ exciting winger Dalitso Sailesi shaking afive-litre chigubu containing water and then splashing it all over his teammate Miracle Gabeya instead of champagne last Wednesday as Big Bullets celebrated their TNM Super League title, provided a unique image—different from what happens elsewhere. But with the K500 million partnership deal on the cards, hopefully the People’s Team will afford a bottle of champagne to toast the glory should they defend the title next season. Nevertheless, it felt so good to see such sights and sounds—the jigs of celebrations and the vibes from the stands. We need to take a bow to Bullets for defending the title in spectacular fashion. After sealing the title with four games to go, they stood proudly at the summit of the log table with a 17-point lead. Now that is something. Try counting up to 17 and you will probably realise what a big task it is .Just try to ask a Standard One kid to count up to 17 in return for Kamba puffs and certainly the response you are likely to get is: “Kagwele naye uko kamba wakoyo!”Bullets’ success should serve a lesson that it takesa number of factors to achieve success. It is about self-belief, team spirit and commitment. I did not see any supernatural performance from BB, but what I saw was the determination to win and a free spirit to fight every inch of the way. On a lighter note though, the Holy Bible teaches us about sharing and I hope that Bullets will donate every point that they collect in their remaining games to their rivals Be Forward Wanderers in the spirit of sharing ahead of the festive season. Glory be to God. Uloliwe…uloliwe wayidudula hah!, neng’esiza [The train is pushing].
