Star Gist on AfricaMagic

Africa Magic Entertainment is launching Star Gist, the continent’s very own answer to showbiz buzz, up-to-the-minute entertainment and trend news.

This glamorous new show brings to the DStv screen equally hip presenters— Zimbabwe’s former Big Brother Africa housemate Vimbai Mutinhiri and South African presenter Lawrence Maleka.

Star Gist is all about giving viewers exclusive star profiles, behind-the-scenes features as well as continental and international headlines – on the daily,” reads a statement issued on Friday.

The first episode of the red-carpet show—with all the glamour, inside information, fashionistas and celebrity royalty—aired Monday at 7.30pm on AfricaMagic Entertainment (DStv Channel 129) and continues the same time every weekday.

Star Gist will be seen by audiences across the continent and we are hoping the predominantly locally-produced content will appeal to Africa. We’re happy to provide the continent with first class entertainment and up-to-the-minute industry news. The show is well-placed to take the newly rebranded AfricaMagic Entertainment to the next level,” says M-Net Africa managing director Biola Alabi.

It’s all about music, hot cars, gadgets…

Programme highlights on the channel include business movers and shakers being profiled as they share amazing human success stories from around Africa, music reviews, luxury toy round-ups, jets, hot cars, latest gadgets and up-to-the minute technology, such as cool applications for iPods or tablets.

Co-presenter Lawrence is a 22-year-old South African man who still loves the cooking of his mother, who once told him that his talent would pay him—prophetic words.

His career started as a presenter on the Soweto TV’s highest rated youth show, ‘1st‘. He now hosts the music show Sowetop10.

“Star Gist is an amazing show that celebrates our own, showing that we are just as good if not better than our international counterparts. The crew is made up of a vibrant group of people that love their work,” he says.

On the other hand, Harare-based Vimbai, also known as Miss Vee, has since hosted several events across the continent as a live MC.

She also modelled in several Fashion Weeks and graced some of Africa’s largest publications.
