Sulom VP eyes FAM post

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice-president Daud Suleman is seeking nomination for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive committee member post to replace Alfred Gunda who has been appointed general secretary.

According to FAM statutes Article 35, the position has to be filled at the next annual general meeting slated for January 14 following Gunda’s resignation.

Suleman has since lobbied Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) to nominate him for the post, according to general secretary Masiya Nyasulu.

“So far, only Daud Suleman, the Sulom vice-president has approached us for support on that FAM executive member post. It is our hope that other candidates will come,” said Nyasulu.

When contacted, Suleman, who was elected Sulom vice-president in 2015, said he will comment on the matter in 10 days.

“For the meantime, wait. I will come back to you with all my detailed information on the matter just 10 days from now,” he said.

But Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said his office is yet to be officially communicated on the matter.

He, however, said Sulom would support Suleman at the polls if he is nominated.

“As Sulom, we are taking that as a welcome development. So far, we are just waiting for official communication. Otherwise, we are ready to support him during the election because he will be coming from our house,” he said.

Meanwhile, FAM has asked all affiliates to submit their nomination to the association’s electoral commission by December 16. n
