Surestream survive Phalombe scare

Surestream Academy’s exquisite run in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) First Division nearly came to a halt at the weekend when they survived Phalombe Open Space scare.

On a bright Saturday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium, the academy outfit displayed characteristic grit to come from a goal down for the better part of the match to roar back to score three goals in the last 15 minutes, inviting a sigh of relief from their technical panel led by Peter Mponda and Patricio Kulemeka.

It has become a ‘catch us if you can’ situation for Surestream who have shot to 40 points from 14 games. They are yet to taste defeat, having won all but one game which they drew against Mitole of Chikhwawa.

Mponda said his charges seem to be losing the plot after a fine run.

“Excitement seems to have crept in and I told the boys that the game against Phalombe should give us some food for thought,” said Mponda,

Phalombe took the lead in the early stages of the match through Nathan Valani. Sensing danger, Surestream came out of their cocoon in the second-half which they started at full throttle.

They scored their goals through Blessings Joseph, Elias Nyirenda and their wonderkid Tony Biasi who has now taken his tally to 24.
