Taulo confirmed as ODPP

Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament has confirmed the appointment of Paul Taulo as the new director of public procurement despite some members feeling he lacked experience for such a high office in the public service.

A committee member who opted for anonymity told The Nation that it was clear Taulo was appointed because of his closeness to the Muhlako wa Alhomwe tribal grouping and not his professional expertise.

Taulo obtained professional qualifications in information technology and procurement.

The committee member said some members felt his education qualifications did not match the position he had been appointed to and that the current deputy director of the Office of the Director of Public Procurement (ODPP), Edward Jeke, was the right candidate.

Said the committee member: “Our mandate was to assess and confirm or reject the appointment and in the end, the committee was of the view that he should be given a chance.”

Another committee member said it was resolved that in communicating the decision to confirm the appointment, the appointing authority, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), should be told that they would have preferred Jeke.

In an interview yesterday, Chief Secretary to the Government George Mkondiwa confirmed: “Parliament confirmed Mr Paul Limbani Taulo as the new Director of ODPP.” n
