The event was attended by a cross-section of people, including the Vice President’s wife Mary Chilima, diplomats, and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera.

Tay Grin’s performance caught the attention of many who shared the sentiments on social media.

Wrote Noel Musicha on Facebook: “I went to see Mafikizolo, they have won several awards, they are very good. However it was their opening act, a Malawian artist called Tay Grin that was most surprising and impressive to me.”

In an interview with The Nation, Tay Grin said such feedback from the audience re-energises him.

“Everyone had a great time. They all got on to the dance floor and they had an amazing evening. As I go to Iceland to represent my country and Africa, I am very excited and very prepared to perform at my best,” he said.

The rapper left for Europe yesterday. He is expected to share the stage with American hip-hop artist Rick Ross during this year’s Secret Solstice Festival 2017 in Reykjavik, Iceland that will take place from June 16, to 18.

He is the first Malawian to perform at the festival which is in its fourth year.

From Iceland, the hip-hop artist will perform in Johannesburg on June 24 and Pretoria on June 25.

He then will fly to United States of America to perform in Dallas, Texas on July 1 and South Bend, Indiana on July 8.
