Tigers court Kananji

Big Bullets assistant coach Elia Kananji has disclosed that Azam Tigers have approached him to consider replacing fired Franco Ndawa.

In an interview yesterday, Kananji claimed that he was approached by Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika in the wake of Bullets’ decision to demote him to the position of second assistant coach.

“I was contacted by Alufandika who wanted to find out if I would be interested to switch to Tigers following my demotion.

“But I did not make any commitment because the decision on whether I will continue with Bullets will be based on the outcome of the meeting that I have with them today (yesterday),” said Kananji.

Alufandika refused to comment on the issue, saying he would do so at an appropriate time.

Kananji said the demotion is not an issue to him, rather his continued stay will depend on improved perks.

“I have accepted my demotion, but I expected an improved package from what I was getting as head coach,” said Kananji.

He said although it was a verbal agreement between him and Bullets executive, it would be discouraging and frustrating if his salary remains the same.

“Pa umunthu akuyenela kundiganizira (they need to consider me). If it is not increased, my interest to continue my job at Bullets would probably fade away,” he said.

Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama said they will sit down to see if  it is possible to increase Kananji’s package.

Kananji has since been replaced by Burundian Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan with Lloyd Nkhwazi as his first deputy.
