Azam Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika has hailed the impact of seasoned left winger Emmanuel Chipatala who—he claims— has galvanised the Kau Kau.

“Chipatala is very experienced. We feel that his coming will lift up the youngsters. Most of the players in our team are youngsters. Roughly, 75 percent is dominated by youngsters,” said Alufandika.

Chipatala’s experience proved handy on Saturday as he blasted in the third goal in Tigers’ 3-0 beating of Silver Strikers in a strength testing match staged at Kamuzu Stadium. Peter Cholopi and Peter Katsonga scored the other goals.

The former Mighty Wanderers winger spent four seasons in Mozambique before returning home in the pre-season alongside Chiukepo Msowoya and Victor Nyirenda who are with Big Bullets and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers respectively.

Saturday’s result handed coach Gerald Phiri Senior his first high-profile win in the build up to the season. Phiri, who is keeping away from the media, has been tasked with winning some silverware next season.

Tigers want to improve on the eighth place finish in the TNM Super League when they garnered 41 points from 28 games, but that was not enough to save the job of coach Franco Ndawa. The 2015 Super League starts on April 18 2015.
