Tigresses have for the first time this season displaced Kukoma Diamonds from the summit of Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) log table following a 136-20 thrashing of Young Professionals at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Tuesday.

The defending champions have been playing second-fiddle since their first-round loss to Diamonds, but their resounding victory during the mid-week game has perched them at the top of the league on better basket difference as they are tied on 33 points.

However, Diamonds have better chances of reclaiming and tightening grip at the top as they have a game in hand, having played 11 games against Tigresses’ 12.

Each team in the 10-team league is supposed to play 18 games.

“It is our hope that we continue earning resounding victories because we know that the title winners might be determined through better score margins, that is, if we win all our six remaining games,” said Tigresses assistant coach Charles Mhango.

In spite of that, Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa, whose team swims in the 2016 Airtel Money Tournament glory, said they will leave no stone unturned in their bid to recapture the league leadership and eventually win the title.

Meanwhile, Alliance Capital Stars have also dislodged Thunder Queens from the third place with a 40-32 beating of Shizaella Queens on Tuesday. They have 27 points from 13 games whereas Thunder Queens have 24 points from 10 matches.

On the same day, Chilomoni Sisters beat Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 40-38 to maintain sixth place with 18 points from 12 games. Prison Sisters are fifth on the table with 21 points from the same number of matches. n
