TNM hints at sponsorship renewal

Super League sponsors TNM on Saturday evening assured the soccer fraternity that they will continue sponsoring the elite league in the country.

TNM sponsorship ends this season but TNM chief executive officer Douglas Stevenson has hinted in a statement issued on Saturday of continued sponsoring.

The statement reads: “We are here to stay. We plan to go on for the next 10 years as a sponsor, and to continue being a trusted partner. We acknowledge the role that sports plays in the socio-economic development of the country. We are here to stay, and when we say “Always With You” we mean business as Super League of Malawi and the football clubs will testify.

“We realise that a section of the players rely on football for their livelihood and that most of them are also our customers.

“It therefore, holds that we should give back to this sector of society. In addition, football is the most followed sport in the country.”

The statement coincided with the TNM awards presentation ceremony held at Bingu International Convetion Centre in Lilongwe.

The10-year sponsorship celebration reached a climax with a game involving champions Kamuzu Barracks and Super League Select at Civo Stadium.

Reads TNM CEO’s statement: “For a solid and unbroken 10 years, we have taken pride in our brand’s association with football by sponsoring the top flight league, and giving football a refreshing image. It feels great to reach this far.”

Meanwhile, director of sports in the Ministry of Labour, Sports, Youth and Manpower Development, James Ndalama, who was guest of honour during the award presentation ceremony, said government has promised to provide a conducive environment for companies like TNM to work and make profits.

He said: “As government, we commend TNM for their continued investment in football. Like your motto says, ‘Always With You”, you have always been in football even when other companies pulled out. We are very grateful.”

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu, who presented a certificate of recognition to TNM for football support in the country, hailed the mobile phone company.

“They are true partners of football and as FAM we are indebted to them,” he said on the sidelines of the function.n
