Two die in Ntcheu road accident

Two people, a girl and a man, died in a road accident on Friday at Kanyimbo Village in Ntcheu while seven others sustained minor injuries.

Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu confirmed about the accident.

“The girl has been identified as Grace Chiwala, 13, of Sawali Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Sawali in Balaka. We believe that the man, who has not yet been identified, was aged between 50 and 55,” he said.

Chigalu said the accident happened when the vehicle they were travelling in, a Toyota Hilux registration LL 9009, overturned on the Dedza-Ntcheu stretch of the M1 Road, killing the two on the spot.

The seven injured were rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital where they are receiving treatment while the dead bodies were taken to the same hospital’s mortuary.

Meanwhile, police are informing anyone who may be missing their relation to check with Ntcheu Police Station for identification of the bodies.

The man is dark in complexion and at the time of the accident was wearing a yellow jacket and a black pair of trousers and shoes while the girl is light in complexion and slim, according to the police.

The police are also reminding motorists that it is a traffic offence to carry passengers in pick-up vehicles without authorisation from road traffic authorities. n
