Just two goals have earned Mafco’s midfielder Patrick Masanjala the Standard Bank Golden Boot Award.

For his feat, Masanjala went home with K100 000 (about $263) and a miniature.

The showpiece was tight such that 13 goals were scored in open play during the tournament.

Only one own goal [by Kamuzu Barracks’ Douf Simaone] was registered.

Masanjala scored a double against Airborne Rangers in a quarter-final match in which Mafco won 3-0.

It was also the highest winning score margin of the competition.

Three matches, including two semi-final encounters, were decided through penalty shoot-outs.

The two semi-final matches saw Mighty Wanderers lose to Silver Strikers 3-0 in the dreaded shoot-out after tying one-all in regulation time, the other one between Azam Tigers and Mafco was also decided through penalties after the two teams also settled for a one-all draw and Tigers emerged 7-6 winners in penalties.

A preliminary round match between Big Bullets and Airborne was the other match that had to be decided through penalties after the two teams again tied one-all in regulation time.

Ironically, last year’s joint top scorers—Green Harawa and Gastin Simkonda—also scored two goals apiece.
