University of Malawi Staff Sports Association (Umssa) has courted Nico Life Insurance Company as guest participants in the inter-college games at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre on March 31.

Traditionally, the event is for players from University of Malawi’s (Unima) constituent colleges of CoM, Chancellor College, the Polytechnic, College of Nursing and Bunda College. They compete in disciplines such as football, volleyball and darts.

Umssa general secretary Chifundo Tenthani said they have decided to incorporate Nico Life Insurance staff as a token of appreciation for annual K3.5 million they give them.

“We would like to thank the insurance company for their unwavering support in a special way. Apart from letting their staff contest in the games, we would also honour them with a freedom to mount their billboards and banners at venue of the event,” he said.

Tenthani disclosed that they will use the contest to prepare and identify athletes for the Southern African University Staff Sports Association Games in South Africa in December.

He added that they will also have two preparatory events before the trip to South Africa where at the last event, they finished in the semi-finals in football and volleyball. The two events will take place in June and August.
