The Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) has for the first incorporated schools in the Presidential Initiative on Sports.

According to VAM executive member, Robert White, all along the tournament has been for clubs.

White, who is also Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) chairperson, said the schools will compete in boys and girls categories.

“The format will help to identify talent, which is the main objective of the initiative. This will also help young people to get interested in the game at an early stage,” he said.

White also said the format will help to revamp volleyball teams in tertiary institutions, adding that the schools tournament will be run by the Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa).

“The current crop of volleyball players is aging, so there is need to ensure continuity by getting a new pool of players coming through the ranks to replace the old guard and make volleyball an interesting game,” he said.
