Virtual Tech Malawi has donated K50 000 towards  the smooth running of the revitalised two-day Zomba Basketball Shield slated for this weekend at Chancellor College (Chanco).

According to the event’s organising chairperson, Hope Chisamanga, Virtual Tech Malawi is one of few local firms that have fulfilled their promise to bankroll the competition which is coming back after almost two decades.

“We are still waiting for more companies to fulfil their pledges because this event will require a lot of money. So far, we are grateful to Virtual Tech for the assistance,” said Chisamanga.

The contest that starts on Saturday will involve Bricks, Lox360, Mikoko, Poly Bobcats and Hi-Flyerz from Blantyre; Lilongwe’s Central Knights and Zomba’s Chanco Hawks and Magang’a.

Chisamanga said Zomba Basketball Shield used to be popular at Chanco in the 1990s when the country’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima, Sports Council executive secretary George Jana and Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) vice-president Ben Mlasaanthu used to participate in.
