VP to invite Pope Francis to Malawi
Vice-President Saulos Chilima yesterday left for a one-day visit to the Vatican where he is expected to extend an invitation to Pope Francis to visit Malawi, among others.
A statement from the Office of the Vice-President said Chilima, himself a devout Catholic faithful, will be among the faithful who will attend a general audience of the Vatican on Wednesday where he will greet the Pope.
Reads the statement in part: “Dr Chilima will later the same day meet Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State. During the meeting, he will extend an invitation from His Excellency President Peter Mutharika [for the Pope] to visit Malawi.”
Cardinal Parolin, who is second in command after the Pope, visited Malawi earlier this year and met Mutharika.
Are you saying the VP just flew to Italy to invite the Pope? Are you serious you people? Is it not possible just to send someone closer to Italy such as the High Commissioner to France or UK?
I think other countries are just laughing at us when they hear that we have sent the VP just to invite the Pope to come to Malawi. Or you want the VP also to travel because he has been grounded for too long!
