District coordinator for Wolrec, Prisca Nyasulu, made the remarks on Thursday during the opening of a two-day training workshop to promote women’s social and economic well-being through study circles held in the district.

Nyasulu said through the introduction of reflect groups, people now interact and discuss issues that can help in uplifting the quality of their lives.

She said: “We have about 45 groups in the areas of Maganga and Kambwiri. These groups are engaged in community banking and sharing views on issues like human rights, agriculture and gender equality.”

One of the trainees, Agness Lojasi, commended Wolrec for the initiative. She said since she joined the reflect group, her life has greatly improved because of the business she is engaged in.

“We now know our rights and how we can contribute to the development of this country courtesy of Wolrec, apart from that, our reflect group has 10 goats and two acres which we are going to use for irrigation farming and share the profits after selling the produce,” she said.

The three-year project which is funded by We-Effect will end next year with over 2 250 beneficiaries.
