Woman accused of murdering hubby

Police in Ntcheu have arrested a 31-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her husband on Sunday at Kalimwayi Village in the district.

Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said the suspect, Berita Kamoto, is alleged to have murdered her husband Jeremiah Kholowa, 45, on suspicion that he was stealing from her.

Chigalu: Kamoto is said to have held the deceased on the neck tightly

He said Kamoto, who is physically challenged, attended a business training offered by the Malawi Council for the Handicapped (Macoha) and upon completion she received items, including solar panel, battery, charger, sewing machine, radio and 14 pieces of cloth to help her venture into business.

According to Chigalu, the wife discovered that the deceased was stealing some of the items and selling them to get money for beer.

The development is said to have angered the wife who kicked the husband out of their matrimonial home.

“On Sunday October 8, at around 10pm, the deceased went to the wife’s house where he found the suspect asleep. He then started hitting the door while calling the wife,” he said.

Chigalu said when the wife came out, the husband hit her above the left eye with an object.

“The suspect managed to overpower the deceased who is believed to have been drunk and sat on the deceased’s belly while tightly holding him by the neck until he became unconscious,” said Chigalu.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. n
