“We are happy to see that the women are able to produce quality dried fish that is able to fetch decent profits on the market,” he said.

World Fish trained the women in drying fish using solar tent fish dryers constructed using plastic papers as well as improved energy saving fish smoking kilns.

Kachulu Women Fish Processors Group chairperson Ethel Kabwerebwere disclosed that before they were trained in fish drying, they used to make losses due to poor fish processing.

“The majority of the women in this group are able to pay school fees for their children, construct decent houses and have livestock owing to the new fish processing technologies,” she said.

Village head Likapa described the technologies as a great investment.

He called on the women to be dedicated to the business if the country is to attain economic stability. n
