Women’s group donates to rainstorm victims

A Blantyre-based women’s prayer group, Angels Prayer Partners, at the weekend donated assorted items to the victims of floods at Zingwangwa Camp in Blantyre.
The distressed people lost their property, including houses, in January this year following heavy rains that caused havoc across the country and killed several people.

The donated items included flour, blankets, beans, salt, soap, clothes and other perishables.
The partners’ chairperson Tiaone Hendry Maloya said they contributed cash to buy the donated items after being touched by the living conditions of the people who have been at the camp for five months.
“As God-fearing women, we decided to cheer these colleagues after learning about their troubled living conditions since they moved to this camp,” she said.
Chairperson of the camp, Joyce Jeke, applauded the group’s gesture, saying it has made a huge difference in their lives.
The camp, which initially had more than 200 families that were sharing 10 tents, is now left with less than 100 families after some of them left to rent their own houses.
