Wusc trains staff on gender

The World University Service of Canada (Wusc) has said equal participation between men and women, boys and girls is key to equitable and sustainable development.

Wusc executive director Jacob Mapemba said this on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of a two -day workshop on gender for the organisation’s staff, volunteers and partners.

Mapemba said: “This workshop has been organised to increase knowledge and skills in gender among our partners. We will also assess ourselves to identify our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in gender mainstreaming.”

Women for Fair Development (Wofad) representative, Linna Matanya, said as a member of an organisation that deals with issues of HIV and Aids, the workshop will assist them in improving their services especially in mainstreaming.

“There are a lot of issues that affect women in our line of work. This will equip and give us the skills to deal with challenges brought about by gender issues but also help us find solutions,” said Matanya.
