Youths around Chilukwa Primary School in Mzimba District through Chilukwa Youth Club have embarked on fundraising activities to complete a school block that stalled due to lack of funds.

School blocks at the school were constructed by communities and one of them was not completed after funds ran out.

The club’s secretary Zimema Mhone, who visited Nation Publications Limited (NPL) offices in Mzuzu on Tuesday, said learners, especially those in Standard 7 and 8, were learning under trees.

He said the club has since organised a mock wedding tomorrow to raise funds for the project.

“The event is one of the activities that youths have organised to support community development projects that benefit the youth and children in our area,” said Mhone.

Chilukwa Club treasurer Chancy Msango said the club intends to raise over K800 000 and they have since engaged a number of non-governmental organisations and government officials to take part in the event.

“We were banking on Constituency Development Fund, but we understand there isn’t enough money to meet that. So, we just decided to go ahead with fundraising activities,” he said. n
