After hitting hat-tricks for fun at Liga Desportivo de Maputo (formerly Liga Maculmana), recalled Flames striker Zicco Mkanda completes his remarkable year by exchanging marriage vows with his sweetheart Ireen Ngosi in Blantyre this Saturday.

The event’s programme shows that the marriage will be officiated at Michiru CCAP Church in Chilomoni Township followed by a reception at the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) Hall, commonly known as Comesa Hall.

Mkanda guided the Mozambican side to a second consecutive Mocambola League championship last season as he finished on a career high 12 league goals to win an in-house golden boot and sway again Flames coach Young Chimodzi.

Mkanda says marrying Ireen, who works for FMB, would go a long way in taking his career to the next level as he expects to be more focused.

“At this stage of my career, I believe getting married will help me focus and start behaving like a man knowing that I have somebody’s daughter depending on me,” said the 24-year-old player.

The former Escom Reserves and Malawi Under-20 striker is a second born of the Mkanda family of Chinsothe Village, T/A Makwangwala, Ntcheu. Third-born Ireen is from Ngosi Village, T/A Kyungu, Karonga.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined by his wife, and they shall become one fresh,” reads the invitation card quoting Genesis 2:24.
