Communities in Zomba have been urged to take ownership of developmental projects implemented by government and different organisations in the district for sustainability.
District Commissioner for Zomba Benet Nkasala made the call recently during the launch of Southern Region informal sector training provider’s association with local artisans at Gymkhana Club.
Nkasala said most of the projects are vandalised by people who live in the same communities because people do not take responsibility of the implemented projects.
“Most of the boreholes, bridges and other projects are destroyed or stolen by some individuals who reside in the same areas. Everybody must have a responsibility of caring for them” he said.
On her part, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zomba Central Patricia Kainga Nangozo said youths are pillars of development and ought to be at forefront in caring developmental projects.
’It’s good that youths in Zomba are taking good initiates and government has to consider them when establishing community colleges” said Nangozo.
