Zomba reduces crime by 9%

Zomba Police Station says it has reduced crime rate in the district by 9.01 percent

Zomba Police Station coordinator for community policing, Clement Mwale, said during the period under review, 1 150 criminal cases were recorded between January and July 2017 compared to 1 264 crimes registered in the same period in 2016.

He also said 4 299 road accidents were registered in 2017 compared to 5 223 road accidents registered during the same period in 2016, representing a decrease of about 17.7 percent.

“We have achieved these successes due to the meaningful partnerships between the police and the community,” said Mwale.

Commenting on the issue, Zomba district commissioner Emmanuel Bambe said the district will attract more investors which will in turn improve people’s livelihoods.

Commissioner of police for the Eastern Region Martha Suwedi pledged continuous engagement of communities in matters of security for peace to prevail in the region. n
