Member of Parliament (MP) for Dowa North East Constituency Sam Kawale has urged government to reintroduce skills and vocational training in secondary schools to prepare youths for tertiary education.
In his contribution to the International Development Association Bill on Tuesday, Kawale said he was not surprised most youths lack necessary skills required in various industries.
“Such programmes are very important, but should they be concentrated in colleges only?” wondered Kawale.
He said if the programmes were reintroduced in secondary schools, students would acquire essential skills when they finish Form Four, noting this would lead to cultivating a spirit of entrepreneurship in the country.
“Our students need to have these skills right from secondary schools,” he said.
