12-year-old boy commits suicide in Mzimba
A 12-year-old boy at Luzi in Traditional Authority (T/A) Jalavikuwa in Mzimba on Wednesday hanged himself from a mango tree.
Rumphi Police station officer Charles James Mpezeni confirmed the death of the boy, who was in Standard Three at Luzi Primary School in the district.
“We visited the place together with a medical officer who confirmed that the boy died due to strangulation,” he said.
A neighbour George Gondwe said the deceased, who was living with his father and step mother, committed the act after coming from school.
“After taking his lunch, he went to graze goats in the bush where two men collecting poles found him hanging from a mango tree branch,” he said.
T/A Jalavikuwa expressed shock at the boy’s death which he described as unusual.
He appealed to parents and guardians to monitor strange action by their children and report to authorities. n
