The Central Region Netball League (CRNL) has announced that 16 teams have made it into the regional finals of the Presidential Initiative for Sports (PIS) netball tournament at Area 30 in Lilongwe.

In an interview yesterday, CRNL general secretary Fernando Ligola said the teams first competed at district level before making it into regional finals.

“We expect great excitement and good netball. We appeal to fans to come in their large numbers as the games will be free,” said Ligola.

Airborne Sisters, Mafco, Ntcheu Medicals, Ntcheu Sisters, Kasungu Police, Kasungu Stars, Green Sisters, Splash Queens, Mchinji Police, Mbwelera, Chitedze Sisters, Mitundu Sisters, Support Battalion Sisters, Dowa Queens, Evans Sisters and Ntchisi Queens are the teams seeking regional honours this weekend.

“The games will start at 8.30am, according to the programme we have arranged. All the teams are expected to arrive on Friday. Winners will get K200 000 (about $526), runners-up will pocket K150 000 (about $394) and the third-placed will get K100 000 ($260). There will also be individual prizes,” said Ligola.

He said the champion will join Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets and Mafco Soldiers which will represent the Central Region in the finals scheduled for next month.

“Eagles Sisters, Civonets and Mafco Soldiers were seeded and did not have to go through qualification stages,” said Ligola.
