2014 elections will be a model —EC

Malawi’s Electoral Commission (EC) says it is determined and geared to make the 2014 tripartite elections a model for other countries.

But the commission has asked all stakeholders to the elections to play their roles to make the elections successful.

Commissioner Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Malango told the gathering during the public hearing on ward demarcation for Blantyre City that EC has taken a consultative approach to the management of elections and its activities.

On January 22 2013, EC conducted another public hearing for the Blantyre City Council but there were some sticky issues that required revisiting.

Delegates to the Monday public hearing confirmed the proposal made in January that in Blantyre City East, with respect to Nkolokoti and Limbe wards, that Chichiri secondary and primary schools relocate to Limbe Ward on the map following Mudi River.

It was also confirmed that there should be Green Corner Ward in Blantyre City South Constituency from proposed names of Chilobwe and Nancholi.

Traditional authorities Machinjiri and Kapeni attended the discussion.
