Mlaka Maliro back with new album

Musician-cum-pastor Macdonald Mlaka Maliro has announced the release of his first gospel album in eight years titled Risen King.

In an interview from his e-Swatini (formerly Swaziland) base, the musician said the ten-track album has English and Chichewa songs.

Mlaka: I am not here to compete with anyone

Risen King is my 13th album recorded with a live band at Blue House Studios in eSwatini. It has both Swazi and Malawian artists in the production. There’s Erik Paliani and Lulu on guitars from Malawi and some big names here.

“Seeing what is happening spiritually and politically, I have decided to rise up and say something through music, a ministry which people first knew me with,” said the artist.

Mlaka said the new album is strictly gospel.

“The stories in the songs are of encouragement to the lost and hopeless souls. No comfort comes from man but God alone,” he said.

Mlaka says  the comeback has also been inspired by a void created in the gospel music due to his absence.

“Listening to the new artists on the market, I can see that something is missing from the generation I appeared with and I am not here to compete with anyone but to just fill my gap,” he said.

In a separate interview, Lulu said while Mlaka has not diverted from his touch, the album highlights the new features and sides of the artist.

“Mlaka is coming back for real and the level of his music has gone way high. There’s more quality and maturity. Mlaka is talented and I also think being surrounded by good instrument players has improved his art,” he said.

Mlaka’s other albums include Dzanja Lalemba Maloto, Musalire, Gologolo Pamtengo and Njododa.
