Mwase delighted with Nomads’ confirmation

Former Flames coach Meck Mwase says he is delighted with his confirmation as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers head coach.

The Nomads announced Mwase’s’ confirmation on Saturday night, almost four months after appointing him interim coach following the departure of immediate-past coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan.

The announcement also came hours after the coach led the Nomads to a 10-0 demolition of table-anchors Baka City FC in a TNM Super League match in Blantyre.

In an interview yesterday, Mwase said: “God’s time is the best and I thank Him for making it possible and I look forward to the challenge.”

On what he expects to achieve, the CAF A coaching licence holder said: “We haven’t sat down with management to discuss issues of targets and so on. So, I would be in a better position after we sit down.”

Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi said the club’s initial targets to win the league and two cups have not changed.

He said: “The targets are the same as when he was interim coach and assistant coach then. The ambition is the same.

“We have not changed our expectations and we want to ensure that he leads a winning team.”

Mwase has been in charge of 14 matches across all competitions, winning 10, drawing twice and losing two.

The 52-year-old coach, who became the third coach to guide the Flames to qualify for Africa Cup of Nations in 2021,  has only lost once in the TNM Super League a 2-1 defeat to Moyale Barracks and FCB Nyasa Bullets by the same margin in the FDH Bank Cup Round of 16.

Ramadhan resigned after 2-0 back-to-back losses against Silver Strikers and Mzuzu City Hammers.

The Nomads are second on the standings in the flagship league with 41 points from 20 matches.
