She said the promotion of an operational bridge between resilient health systems and education systems relies upon the provision of basic and technical education.

Said Wirima: “Indeed, strengthening quality, inclusive and equitable education and skills systems is pivotal to tackle the crisis of human resources in health, and address most global development challenges, from health to climate change, food security and gender equality.”

The minister also shared with delegates key challenges affecting the Malawi health system and strategies that the government has adopted to strengthen the resilience of health systems.

She said the government for example was integrating health education into the curriculum and extra-curricular activities and promoting pre-service and in-service training for health workers.

Italy’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for development cooperation Edmondo Cirielli, who chaired the event, said strengthening quality, safe and inclusive education systems was crucial to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The outcomes of the discussions will be reflected in the Education and Development section of the Final Communiqué of the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development.
