3 pro-golfers in Zambia for Zanaco Masters Tour

Three Malawian professional golfers will today compete in the pre-qualifiers of the Zanaco Masters Tour at Lusaka Golf Club in Zambia.

The golfers are Paul Chidale, Victor Kachepatsonga and Simon Moses who is being sponsored by Hallmark Creations.

Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Malawi president Patridge Shycal said the trio will need to make the grade to qualify for the actual tournament set to tee off on Thursday.

“The task is huge as Sunshine Tours are usually fully-booked and over 70 golfers will be fighting for eight available slots,” he said.

Over 20 companies are sponsoring the event to the tune of $200 000 (about K148 million).

Moses said he is set for the event, having failed to make a cut in the Kanyan Safari Tour last month.

“I learnt valuable lessons from the Safari Tour. Now it is time to impress my sponsors and show that my golf is improving. I thank Hallmark for their support and I am looking forward to the tournament,” he said.

Hallmark Creations managing director Gift Chidya Gondwe said they are sponsoring Moses to help him improve his game and become one of the top golfers.

“We want him to realise his dream of becoming a top golfer in this part of the continent.

“At the moment, results do not really matter. We feel we should continue investing in him to become a better golfer,” he said.

Hallmark has pumped in K500 000 towards Moses’ trip to Zambia, a month after footing a K1.3 million bill towards his participation in the Safari Tour.

Meanwhile, Chidale has said while he is ready for the tournament, financial constraints could force him to withdraw.

“I came here last week for the Zambian Open in Kitwe. So, even if I qualify I do not think I have enough funds to see me through but we will see,” he said.
