The Malawi Has Talent show on Sunday saw 30 contestants staging various performances as they fought for a spot in the Top 10 to be part of the grand finale in the competition hosted by Times Group with support from First Capital Bank.

During the show at the Bingu International Convention Centre  in Lilongwe on Sunday, the 30 acts put up an impressive show and captivated the audience through their displays of drama, songs, and dance.

In an interview, organising chairperson Wonder Msiska said the show seeks to create a platform for Malawians who have talent to be exposed and to earn a living through their talent.

He said: “We are trying to identify Malawi talents and we are also going to provide a platform where those with hidden talents, whether from remote areas, are going to compete in order to win the different prizes. It is high time such people started earning a living through their talent.”

Msiska also said Malawians are now going to vote to determine who, among the 30 acts will be in the top 10 and battle it out in the grand finale slated for August 26 2023.

One of the contestants, Temwa Kaunda who performed a song titled Mwandikondera by Suffix, could not hide her excitement after receiving good remarks from the judges.

She said: “This show has given me exposure. People will know me and I will be able to connect with other artists because this is a great platform.”

The 30 acts were selected by a panel of judges comprising poet Q Malewezi, poet and event organiser Zilanie Gondwe and  Jai Banda following auditions that took place in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Some of the contestants on the 30 act list included contortionist Felicity Thunyani, Dikamawoko Cultural Dancing Troupe, Vanessa Nalikungwi, Beatus Msamange, Destination Talents, Adobe Dance Crew, Strong Boys, Kesia Saiwa, The Future Kings, The Invisible Crew, Beginners Dance Crew and Akuzike Thole.
