One of the students, Vincent Mgoli Mwale, speaks as pan (L) and other students look onThirty-two Malawians have left for China for studies in different fields under China Government Scholarship programme.

They join two others already in China to study in various Chinese universities for two to six years to obtain bachelors, masters or doctorate degrees. The Chinese Government covers all expenses, including tuition, accommodation and airfare.

On the eve of the group’s departure on Saturday, Chinese Ambassador Pan Hejun hosted a farewell reception at his residence in Lilongwe.

“In his remarks, Pan congratulated the winners of this year’s scholarships, who had been selected out of 400 applicants. He introduced China-Malawi relations, and encouraged the students to work hard and enjoy their stay in China”, said Wang Junchao, the Chinese Press Attaché.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations with China in 2007, 142 Malawians have so far benefited from the programme.
