The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has repatriated 44 refugees from Dzelaka Refugee Camp in Dowa.

Among the repatriated refugees, 15 are Burundians while 29 are from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

UNHCR field associate Silvester Chapotera said the refugees have decided to go back to their country voluntarily.

Said Chapotera: “These refugees are returning to their country voluntarily because they feel their home countries are now on peace.

“We have also investigated and found that there is indeed peace. As UNHCR, we promote and facilitate the voluntary repatriation of refugees once conditions are conducive to return to their countries.”
