Malawi shines on Day 2 at Zone VI Golf tourney

The Malawi national golf team turned on a classic display on the second day of the Zone VI games in Cape Town, South Africa, where they won six out of eight games.

The team collected six points from a possible eight. The games, on day two, were played on foursome format in the morning and fourballs in the afternoon.

Malawi were still in contention for a third-place finish on Thursday, which was the final day of the regional competition, with singles match play.

As of on Thursday, Malawi were on sixth position out of 11 teams, with nine points and were at par with Kenya.

Kondwani Mphulla and Adam Sailesi beat a Mauritius pair 4 and 3; Gabriel Kambale and Victor Kachepatsonga beat a Ugandan pair 3 and 2 whereas Paul Chidale and Stanford Mayuni beat Botswanan pair 5 and 3. The only Malawian pair that lost was that of Symon Moses and Ben Wandawanda to a Namibian pair 5 and 4.

Hosts, South Africa, were still leading with 15 points and are tipped to retain the championship.

Zimbabwe were on second position with 12 points whereas Namibia were third. Mauritus and Swaziland tied on fourth position with 9.5 points.

The bottom four had Zambia, Uganda, Botswana and Mozambique respectively.
