The National Aids Commission (NAC) and other stakeholders in the fight against HIV and Aids have asked herbalists and other people claiming to be curing people of HIV and Aids to come forward and prove their claims.

NAC acting director of programmes Andrina Mwansambo said on Tuesday that while government does not have legal instruments to bar people from making the allegations, it has the capacity to test the cure.

Said Mwansambo: “We want these people claiming to have the cure to come forward so that we should scientifically prove this through our researchers at Chancellor College.”

In her remarks, Malawi Network of Aids Service Organisations (Manaso) executive director Leonisa Nsiku urged Malawians, including the traditional healers, to work with government in the fight against the pandemic.

She said this year’s World Aids Day, whose theme is ‘Getting to Zero new infection, Aids related illness and discrimination’ is aimed at creating awareness on the voluntary male medical circumcision (VMMC).
